This article is about the Farm Frenzy game. Not to be confused with the video game series, Farm Frenzy (series).

Information on this article is mostly about the original PC version of the game. Some of this information may not apply to certain versions made for other platforms. For alternate versions on other platforms, check bellow the gallery for more.

Farm Frenzy is a 2007 casual arcade time-management video game developed by Melesta and published by Alawar Entertainment. It is the first game of the Farm Frenzy series created by Alex Meleshkevich and Kirill Plotnikov. It won “Best Casual Game” award at the 2008 Russian Game Developers Conference.

The game has budget-saving strategies and the challenge of managing time for rewards. During gameplay, the player’s objective is to complete 48 levels working on a farm by raising animals and collecting goods for production and profit. The player has the option to complete a level beating two time completions with a level timer rewarding the player with a gold or silver medal. The timer continues unless if the game is paused or if the player is using the car. Additionally there is an optional objective to earn every award in a showcase of the game’s achievements. Levels however must earn enough stars in the bonus when completed in order to purchase required factories and upgrades in the shop to play more levels, otherwise the player will have to replay completed levels to make it through.

As the game replicates the real-life challenges of struggles of time management, the player has to balance running the farm, completing goals, and avoiding hazards. The player has to pay attention to everything happening on the farm while attempting to try finishing by a certain time. This includes keeping enough space in the storehouse, keeping enough grass on the ground, saving a budget, ensuring no goods spoil, and quickly stop incoming predators from wrecking the progress.

Each level has a list of tasks to complete. The amount ranges from 1-4 tasks and show the specific amount of each task is needed for completion. Goals consist of collecting a certain number of goods, having a certain number of animals, and saving a certain amount of money. When a goal is completed, a bunch of stars appear in the goal section during gameplay putting a check mark by the completed goal. Once a goal is completed, it won’t be unchecked if the player undoes its completion. If the goods in a goal are sold during an uncompleted goal, the goal does not decrease how many were collected. Once all goals are completed in a level, the time stops and results are given. Usually after a level is completed, a house gets progressively built shown on the map.

Controls[]

The mouse is to click and move around on things along with the cursor. The keyboard is to type in the player name and has the ESC key set as a shortcut to go to menu when in a level. The mouse is mostly going to be used throughout gameplay.

Animals[]

The animals must be raised by the player in order to obtain the necessary raw goods to complete a level. Most levels start with atleast one animal and must be watched. Animals eat grass cultivated from the well and produce one type of good. If no grass is on the ground the animals will go hungry and die of starvation. Each livestock animal has a blue diamond-shaped health bar below that shows how long they have till they starve or need to eat. Once the bar goes past the very last diamond, the animal is dead. Although cows can sometimes die sooner for unknown reasons. This does not apply to cats and dogs as they do not eat or starve. The cat and dog are special animals that can help the player and make level completion easier and sometimes faster.

Cat 2,500 coins N/A N/A N/A Yes No Collects goods for the player

Dog[]

Dogs help keep the bears in place. Whenever a bear is about to drop, the dog either freezes or slows down preparing to stop them. As soon as the bear drops, the dog runs to the bear and constantly barks at it keeping the bear from roaming around the field. This does not stop any animals from being tossed if they walk towards the bear.

Cat[]

Cats help collect any goods sitting on the field. Whenever a good is produced by an animal or factory, the cat will immediately run to it and store it in the storehouse as soon as it touches it. Cats can still be tossed away by bears and cannot store captured bears.

Goods[]

The goods are the collectable items produced by animals and factories. Goods can be used to sell for coins or processed into a factory to create higher-priced goods to sell. Goods take time to produce and can spoil if sitting uncollected too long.

Good Sell Produced by Maximum Crate Capacity Processed from Can Be Produced into

Predators[]

During gameplay, bears will occasionally drop onto the farm to cause havoc wrecking the player’s progress making the time management of each level a challenge. A bear’s shadow appears on the field as the bear slowly falls from the sky with its roar getting louder. The player must capture the bear in a cage before it wrecks anything happening on the farm as soon as it drops. Once a bear is captured, the bear cannnot cause any problems.

Predator Actions Sell Maximum Crate Capacity
Bear Throws animals off the farm and crushes uncollected goods 100 coins 1

Factories[]

The factories (also referred to as plants) are the buildings on the right and left sides of the farm that process goods into more profitable goods. When clicked on, the raw/pre-processed good(s) fly into the factory. The factory then bounces showing its production’s progress next to it. When the production is finished, the new good becomes collectable sitting on the ground. Upgrading factories allows more goods per production.

Factory Production Cost In-game Cost to Upgrade
Egg Solids Plant Egg to Egg Powder 200 coins 300 coins 400 coins 500 coins 600 coins
Bakery Egg Powder to Cupcake 400 coins 600 coins 800 coins 1,000 coins 1,200 coins

Sometimes factories will already be upgraded at some level at the start of one of the game’s levels.

Equipment[]

The equipment is used to help the player’s necessary needs to complete every level. The player will access all the equipment in every level starting with Level 2.

Equipment Purpose Upgrade Info Cost to Upgrade Additional Note
Well Stores irrigation to cultivate grass on the field to feed the animals Adds more water and reduces price per refill 300 coins 600 coins 1,200 coins 5,000 coins The last upgraded well automatically irrigates the land for the player.
Storehouse Stores goods collected from animals, factories, and the captured bears Adds more space for goods 150 coins 500 coins 1,000 coins 12,000 coins
Car Sends goods to the market to earn money Adds more space for crates and drives faster 300 coins 800 coins 1,500 coins 5,000 coins
Cage Used to catch bears Reduces the number of clicks to catch the bear N/A

Well[]

The well is what stores the irrigation for grass cultivation to feed the animals. Without it, the animals would never survive. When a level is started, the well is always going to start for a free fill for five patches. If animals are hungry and all the planted grass was eaten, this is from not refilling the well to cultivate more grass. The basic well cost 19 coins to refill. Grass also will slowly disappear when in a level. If the well is empty but the player clicks the ground anyway, the red arrow will appear pointing at the well prompting the player, it also shows a message saying "The well is empty! Click it to buy more water!” the first few times. If there isn't enough money for a refill, the red arrow will prompt at where the coins are shown with a one-time message saying "You don't have enough money to make the purchase!". There is never a limit on adding grass to the field, it just matters of how much coins there is to grow it. The well has upgrades also to help improve its performance. When the well is upgraded it wil reduce the price and store more water to cultivate more grass. The last upgrade is an automatic well that automatically irrigates the field and cost 7 coins every time a grass patch is grown (though technically less efficient in cost as five cultivated grass patches from this well would cost a total of 35 coins). The red arrow won't prompt the player with the final well either. If there isn't 7 coins while the automatic well is running, the well will still move but won’t cultivate anymore grass until the budget has enough.

Storehouse[]

The storehouse is what keeps goods and captured predators (and animals when viewing it). Goods and captured predators are what take up room in the storehouse. In the storehouse, goods from smaller animals will take up less room, big animals will take more space with their goods. Bears take up 65% of what size milk takes up in the storehouse. If the storehouse is full, it will prompt the player with the red arrow and with a message saying "Your storehouse is full! Sell some of the goods to make more room!" the first few times. To free up the storehouse you must either sell goods and bears right away or process goods into plants. There are also upgrades available to increase warehouse capacity.

Car[]

The car is what sells goods downtown for more money. The car is unlocked at Level 2. In the car, it will show the shelves with the goods from the storehouse and shows the quantity of them and how much they can be sold for. When loading them into the car, it puts the goods in crates labeled with what they are and how much room there is inside of it. The car has slots to use with limited space. Animals can also be sold in the slots in crates as well. It will show the selling price of the goods total loaded to sell below the car slots. If there are crates unwanted to be sold but loaded, they can be clicked on to unload putting them back to the storehouse. After everything is loaded, pressing the OK button will the deliver the loaded crates over to the market and back showing the price on the way and back. When it returns back to the farm, the money is collected. Also the storehouse if clicked, it will show the same display of loading the car, if the car is gone driving the goods downtown to sell and back it will do nothing when clicked on. Upgrading the car increases slots and delivers the crates faster.

Cage[]

The cage is used to catch any bears who drop onto the field. The player must click multiple times on the bear to build the cage around it. Once the cage is built, the bear is captured. The captured bear can be dispatched into the storehouse and sold with the car. After some very short time, if the captured bear is still on the field, it will start shaking its cage and flee back to the woods. Upgraded cages help the player catch the bears faster reducing the number of clicks to build the cage. The upgraded cages do not cost the player in-game as well.

Unlike factories, all building equipment upgrades (not counting the bear cage) must be purchased by the player for every level as no levels start with any of the upgraded versions.

Awards[]

Award Description Strategy
For taking your time The timer must hit 30:00 in a level This award can be earned during the last level since Level 48 can take up to 35+ minutes of in-game time to complete.
For collecting 500 goods The player must earn the award by clicking on a good 500 times throughout gameplay.
For catching 100 bears A bear must be captured in its cage 100 times throughout gameplay.
For completing 3 levels without hints 3 levels in a row must be completed without the red arrow prompting the player with the well, warehouse, and/or not having enough money. Avoid excessive clicking when the well is empty and pay close attention to the storehouse capacity and current budget.
For completing all the levels in the game The player must complete all 48 levels in the game.
For completing a level without clicking on any goods The player must complete a level by allowing the cat to collect all the goods on the field. Bears also cannot be stored. Play a level that automatically gives you a cat to allow it to collect goods for you. Any bears captured must flee.
For completing a level without catching any bears The player must complete a level without putting any bears in cages. Play a level where animals are rarely needed for production, dogs can help keep bears in place as well.
For 1,000,000 coins in the bank The player must save enough unused money through gameplay until the bank hits one million (1,000,000) in the level results. Save extra money in the later levels
For filling all the shelves in the storehouse The player must have atleast one of every good, animal, and the bear stored at the same time in the storehouse. This is only possible on a few of the later levels that include all factories to produce the required goods for this award, including the last level.
For completing 3 levels without selling bears The player must complete 3 levels in a row without delivering any bears with the car. Avoid storing captured bears in the warehouse during the 3 levels
For earning a gold medal on all of the levels The player must complete all 48 levels with a gold medal received for completing every level by a certain time. (Completed levels that do not have a gold medal can be replayed to earn this award) If you’re struggling to get the gold medal on a level, come back to it later after completing several other levels.
For buying of all upgrades The player must purchase every upgrade in the shop for factories and the equipment. Simply remember to have all equipment upgrades maxed, all the factory upgrades will be purchased by the end of the game.
For having 7 bears in the field The player cannot catch up to 7 bears roaming around on the farm at the same time. Start a level that has no animals already and don’t purchase any or click on any bears until all 7 are on the field together.
For buying 100 animals 100 animals must be purchased by the player throughout gameplay.
For completing 10 levels without the loss of animals 10 levels in a row must be completed without a single animal being tossed away by bears and/or starve. This award can be tricky for newer players. It’s recommended for some players to try later in the game when they have the best bear cage (and maybe the best well too) to avoid losing any animals.
For earning all the awards This being the final award, every other award must be earned to earn this one. All awards can be earned even after all 48 levels are completed. If the game is completed but awards are missing, the player is able to replay any of the levels or purchase upgrades from the shop to try to earn them.

Demo Version[]

A free online demo version of the game was available to play on various gaming websites. The demo version had lower quality graphics, animation, and sound, a limited number of levels, locked animals and equipment upgrades, animation errors, and unwarned approaches of bears. Once all the free levels were completed, the game would tell the player to download the full version. It can no longer be played on most websites due to Flash shutting down at the end of 2020.

The Android version of Farm Frenzy is developed by HeroCraft. This version has exclusive VIP bonuses that give equipment super upgrades, survival mode where the player plays custom level after level endlessly, and 24 additional levels that can be played after all the game’s original levels are completed. The game’s graphics are also pixelated and the audio has an arcade-themed remake of the soundtrack with two additional tracks and three different level completion sounds that play in-game. The quality of the graphics and animations also vary on certain Android devices. It was later renamed to “Farm Frenzy Legendary Classics”.

Promotional Gameplay

On Apple iPad devices, Farm Frenzy was renamed to “Farm Frenzy Origins” and would feature some of the graphics from its successor Farm Frenzy 2. The dog and cat character designs and animations would also be taken from one of the variants of both animals in the second game. The automatic well would also allow the player to cultivate unlimited grass on their own (until their budget goes below the 7 coin price). The game would also use its animal sounds when animals are purchased by the player (excluding cats), feature an animation of an unborn chick walking in an egg on the loading screen, and two bears could fit in the basic storehouse at the same time. This version did not save progress. It was available entirely for free but was no longer supported by 2017 on most iPad devices due to the release of iOS 11 and was eventually removed from the App Store.

The less-alternate iPhone version of Farm Frenzy shared some of these features and was no longer available on iOS 11 as well.

Trivia[]

  • This game was inspired by an earlier farming game known as “Chicken Chase”.
  • In the “help” section, the pictures of the well show inaccurate prices with the basic well being 11 coins instead of 19, the second well being 21 coins instead of 17, and the third well being 39 coins instead of 15. The reason for this is unknown.
  • The last upgraded car has the “Melesta” logo printed on the side, being the game’s original development team.
  • The cow is the only animal that shows an actual facial expression as seen on the game’s logo.
  • One level features the third weaving mill already upgraded despite not being required to purchase in the shop by the player.
  • This game was originally available for free on laptops that had Wild Tangent Games pre-installed.
  • The official page on Alawar’s website to this game was silently removed some time in the late 2010’s or early 2020’s. The game can still be legally purchased officially on various websites including Steam, Big Fish Games, and Wild Tangent Games.
